MEDITATION ON THE INDIFFERENCE
P H O T O G R A P H Y
STEEVE CAZAUX
I have been for a while in my life very active in interacting with friends and people in general, then at some point of my life for different reasons i have made the choice of "me désocialiser", meaning being disconnected from almost every people who was around me in order to walk by my own through experiences. That's why today i have the right balance between the fact of knowing very well myself and be enough accessible to the others and therefore be a true witness of the proceeding of our existence .
These pieces are fragments of series; they are part of a source serie. They try to interrogate the concept of identity, keeping in mind the primary human kind reflexes that we could develop, like:
- Give people only what we want to show,
- be stuck in our mind at the point of refusing completely to see some important emotions the others could or want to share with us,
- also, the recurrent habit of seeing ourselves through a mirror that we built ourselves
All these parameters impose flagrant distances between people and it is emphasized by the epoch we live as we are drowned by social network, what i call "the real life". Obviously it erases the physical world.
We are now aware of how images and codes slide from our hands step by step for describing a surrealistic landscape/ scenery with a strange dialogue and language into the world.
I don't want to give any specific responses through my Art. I don't want to lock the subject in any particular emotion, like sadness or joy to make it simple.I only try to capture a moment of neutrality, a naked moment. Often it is in between, and it is ambiguous because every emotions are connected to each other at the end; There is a link between them, as for example laughing could bring nostalgia.
I don't have any other option than to be close to the one that i shoot to be able to capture that. This omnipresence in the most of the cases make my camera and myself invisible to the subject. Something is happening, i understand that while i am shooting the other i unconsciously take a self portrait as well.
